SPAN 425 with Dr. Urioste was one of my favorite all time literature classes. The reason is because we learned about Mexican authors and i loved each and every one of their literature pieces. Mexican literature captured my complete interest. One of my all time favorite authors is Laura Esquivel. I was introduced to her literature pieces when I was in high school and I loved her book, "Como agua para chocolate". When I heard that we were going to be looking and learning about her pieces of literature I was beyond excited. I liked learning about her works and her specific book mentioned before. "Como agua para chocolate" is an award winning book that narrates the life of a young girl that was born in a kitchen and as she grow older she falls in love. She is forbidden to marry the love of her life because her mom is a widow and she has the bad luck of being the smallest child. In this time it was said the smallest child, if the mom ever became widow, would have to sacrifice his/her life to take care and assist his/her mother. This is what the protagonist Tita has to do. Besides being a romance novel it also has magic realism which make this novel even more fascinating. Tita has the power to transmit her feelings through the food she cooks because she was born in the kitchen. This novel is fascinating and I recommend it to everyone. Furthermore, we learned about indigenous writers and got our way into modern writers. All the writers we learned about were interesting and I loved all of their work. Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, juan Rulfo, and Octavio Paz are another of my all time favorites.
