course narrative
Without a doubt Span 303 was the course that helped me drill in the important details about grammar and components of the Spanish language. This course was taught by Dr. Oliva and I enjoyed the fact that he made the course run at a good pace. We wouldn't spend too much time on any one topic because there was so much for us to learn. It was good because his teaching made it easy to understand and learn, as a matter of fact I learned more with this one course than what i did in my high school Spanish classes during two years. With class activities and homework we had I was able to drill this in me. Since I worked as a Spanish tutor in the Cooperative Learning Center in the CSUMB Library at times I struggled trying to explain the why of certain grammar rules and with this class I was able to find accurate answers. Meanwhile and after taking this class my job at the CLC got easier because I was able to explain making much more sense to my tutees. Dr. Oliva was a great instructor providing students an easy route to memorize and learn every important grammar rule. Something I struggled with was knowing and explaining why we use the preterit and imperfect of past times. As soon as I told Dr. Oliva about my struggles with it he helped me learn and understand the reason why we use one or the other or both. Span 303 helped me understand and teach my tutees in a much simpler form making Spanish grammar rules easier and faster to learn.
