course narrative
In this course I was able to learn more about the Chicano literature and culture. This course was one of the few I had that were taught in english, but Dr. Urioste made it very fun to learn. In this class we read short stories, novels, and wrote essays about the main pieces of literature that we were focusing on. I liked learning about this because even though i was born in the United States with Mexican parents I do not consider myself a Chicana. I have never felt that I am to be able to identify myself as one rather I consider myself Mexicana because I feel my true roots are in México. I understood that Chicanos are their own identity not Hispanic, or Latino but their very own. I enjoyed learning about Chicanos because I got to see an inside of what their daily struggle is to find their own identity and be able to claim it as its own. Many of the Chicano authors, both female and male, have the same writing style. The majority of their works is themed on the finding of their identity and their struggle of being in the United States. It was amazing to see how many students identified with these authors and explained why in their presentations done in class. I was able to further understand their ideals and their motives for wanting to accomplish goals in this country and why they have a constant struggle. I really enjoyed this class because it helped me understand one of the many existing cultures that we have here in this country.
